While you were busy watching the playoffs or the Man U v Chelsea match, the world kept turning. Luckily the Bird’s Nest is here to catch you up on what you might’ve missed. Without further ado, I bring you the important stuff…
- Probably the most significant events were CES and MacWorld but I’m going to let the Bird Brainz cover that in an upcoming post so I’m gonna continue with the random bullshit that I loved from the weekend…
- DC Universe preliminary videos did not wow me. Call me a sucker for violence but the fact that you can only “knockout” your enemies rubs me the wrong way. I do have to say that the physics are pretty damn cool and the fact that you can traverse the buildings is sweet. However, the combat looks kinda lame to me. It’s cool that you can craft your own superhero… BUT you’ll never be batman or superman. They are NPC’s that guide you through the game… that is garbage. They should have them as unlockables at the least for the people that max level or something.
To read the rest (including some Xbox360 surprise releases), you know what to do…
- Square Enix opened the Final Fantasy XIII website. This is most definitely worth a peep because the art is awesome. Lets not also forget the SHOCKER that 360 will have a SAME DAY RELEASE as the PS3 for what used to be a Sony exclusive. WOW! Less enticement to buy a PS3? Yes. A sign that the PS3 is losing market share to Wii and 360? Resounding yes. Do I love it as a 360 owner? Abso-fuckin’-lutely. There is some gorgeous art and the characters look pretty cool. I was pretty dissapointed with FF12, so I’m hoping they can come back with a really enthralling story-line.

- Sex in video games: There is none. This one I scooped from Digg which is a commentary by some Aussies and they make some great points. There is a shit ton of violence in video games (not that I’m complaining). Just 10 minutes ago, I was popping alien heads with a sniper rifle in Gears of War2. Fallout3? Bloodshed and literal facemelting of the nuclear variety. The average age of gamers is older than the general population thinks and the games we play reflect that. These guys think we should be able to handle sex in games and that NC18 games should allow for that (parents could be ampily warned and protected. Read their feature, it is good. As exciting as a static screen and some sex sounds are, I think its time we get some more mature content that includes some sexy-time
- For our WoW readers, here is the upcoming competition. Lastly, a list of some MMORPG’s to watch out for in 2009 and beyond. If I were you guys, I wouldn’t be too worried about much of these. The Old Republic probably has the best chance in my opinion. But let me say a quick thing on this. I feel that the MMORPG with the best chance to take some of WoW’s market share is the one that is the most closely related to WoW gameplay. Who is this really going to piss off? Probably Blizzard only. Lets face it: WoW got it RIGHT. Games that want to compete should probably follow the WoW model or they stand little chance.
I’m on the fence as to whether I”ll get Final Fantasy XIII, though I’m totally excited that it’s coming for 360. Finally! The reasons to pick up a PS3 are getting slimmer and slimmer.
Looked over the list of upcoming MMOs, some look pretty cool, others don’t. The DC Universe one might capture my attention, but then I realized I hate the DC universe, so I’ll probably skip that.
The Star Wars MMO on the other hand might be worth picking up if its polished, and that’s one thing Bioware can do right. And I’m dying to know what this other Blizzard MMO might be. Let’s face it, at this point the only thing that could “kill” a Blizzard MMO is another Blizzard MMO.
